There are many ways to talk about the relationship between cause and effect in German, from the simple “weil” (because) to more complex constructions. Here are a few examples.
Ich tat es, weil ich es wollte.
I did it because I wanted to.
Ich schlief bis zwölf Uhr mittags, denn es war Sonntag.
I slept until noon because it was Sunday.
Da es kein Taxi gab, musste ich zu Fuß gehen.
Since there was no taxi available, I had to walk.
Das Flugzeug hatte wegen des schlechten Wetters Verspätung.
The plane was delayed due to bad weather.
Wegen des schlechten Wetters wurde das Spiel abgesagt.
The match was cancelled due to bad weather.
Bist du wegen der Prüfung nervös?
Are you nervous about the exam?
Die Straße ist aufgrund eines Unfalls gesperrt.
The street is closed due to an accident.
Aufgrund einer Erkrankung kann ich nicht kommen.
I can't come due to an illness.
